OSHA Upgrade for Federal Units
Our team was tasked with overhauling a client’s personnel health and safety records system. A critical issue we identified early on was the inadequate monitoring of employees with the highest risk of exposure to hazardous conditions. This oversight posed a significant concern: without enrollment in the appropriate programs, these 140 employees risked being ineligible for future coverage and treatment for work-related medical issues
As federal employees, there was an inherent level of operational risk that each person accepted as part of their duties. For instance, pilots were regularly exposed to high-decibel environments, engineers frequently worked in proximity to hazardous materials containing carcinogens and toxic fumes, and medical providers handled biowaste. This variety of occupational hazards required a granular approach to finding a solution.
Our initial focus was to ensure that the leadership was thoroughly educated and trained on OSHA and NIOSH standards as well as industry-specific guidelines. With this foundational knowledge in place, we implemented tailored procedures addressing the needs of different departments. These procedures were designed to guarantee that all employees received the correct monitoring and treatment pertinent to their specific job functions and exposure risks.
The implementation of these enhanced health and safety protocols marked a significant improvement in the way our clients managed employee health risks. By ensuring comprehensive monitoring and adherence to safety standards, we helped them provide better protection for their workforce. This aligned with federal regulations and demonstrated their commitment to employee welfare.
